Thank you very much for your answer. Cheap flash can be unreliable for sure.
Actually what I wanted to ask is if you know if the performance of USB hard drives (not used to boot FreeNAS) is also worse on FreeNAS 11.2 than on 11.1?

I'd say I have more trust in good old spinning rust then in cheapest of modern USB flash. It is at least predictable. In rare cases when I need USB drive for more then carry few files I prefer to use SATA SSD in USB enclosure. It works much better than any USB stick around.

I see. I understand that it makes sense to switch to an SSD. Do you know if this boot USB thumb drive performance issue could also affect backup to USB hard drives?

We've received many reports about USB sticks being slower on 11.2, but unfortunately we still have no underdtanding what causes that. Considering significant price drop on SSDs last years we recommend people to use them instead, because of incomparably better performance and reliability.

Sorry for the delay, I just uploaded the save debug.
I recently upgraded the FreeNAS installation on my USB thumb drive to FreeNAS 11.2 and later updated from U6 to U7. Applying the update to 11.2-U7 after downloading took about 40 minutes, while applying FreeNAS 11.1 an earlier updates took considerably less time.
