I believe this is no longer applicable especially since native ZFS encryption was introduced.
I am not sure there is any way to improve the current situation without making things even more complicated.
If you disagree, feel free to reopen. I am looking at old tickets that never got any action on.

The UI is currently showing that a pool is encrypted by adding a lock icon and the encryption options menu/icon. The user experience can be improved by showing more details about encryption. One needed element is to show if a passphrase exists for an encrypted pool. This could be shown in the tooltip or maybe just as text added to the pool description.
With ZFS encryption also on the way, we might want to refine the encryption description to specify which encryption is being used. Then it can be easier to differentiate between pools that are GELI encrypted and datasets that are ZFS encrypted.
