We discussed this in our release council, and the question came up have you tried this with Amazon S3 type and a custom URL? https://www.ixsystems.com/documentation/freenas/11.2/system.html?highlight=cloud%20sync#cloud-credentials If so does that not also work? Also we are more than happy to review a pull request if you would like to contribute. If so please open a new ticket when the pull request is ready.

IBM provides a S3 compliant Object Storage service. I would like to add IBM as an option to backup to for cloud sync.
The pricing for the archive is pretty competative at $0.002/GB per month.
