Jay, I can not debug the issue without any input about how exactly NIC is not recognized. I would appreciate at very least verbose `dmesg` and `pciconf -lvcb` output from FreeNAS 11.3, which you should be able to grab from the console, even without functioning network.
We use the same e1000 driver as FreeBSD 11 upstream, so I do not expect any divergence. Significantly new driver will be present in TrueNAS/FreeBSD 12. You may try some TRueNAS 12 nightly build just for experiment to confirm that your NIC is working there.

The Intel I219-LM NIC is no longer recognized after upgrade to 11.3 U1 and a reboot. This has resulted in no headless access of the system. Upon rolling back to 11.2 U7 or U8, the NIC is recognized and functions in a headless manner.
