cannot decrypt pool / all partition tables seem wiped

Description

I am running two pools (8-disk RAID-Z2, a single USB backup disk) with encryption. A few days ago I updated from 11.3u1 to 11.3u2 and motherboard BIOS and IPMI (SM X11SSH-F) as well. I rebooted the system since then several times and decrypted my pools each time sucessfully.

Planning to test/add L2ARC i shut down the system and added a USB3/SSD device and after booting, i cannot decrypt my pools anymore:

I had navigated to Storage, Pools, Add (wrong place to add L2ARC, i know) where i saw my disks all listed as available - see screenshot. I didn't do anything there (Create button was greyed out all time)

I exported the backup pool and tried to import it, then the system said there were no pools to be imported.

I switched to the console and looked at gpart list and inside /dev which only shows partiiton information for the used boot pool. All 8+1 data disks are only listed as the device itself without partition information - if i am not mistaken.

So, I'm a little late coming back to this party. But a huge shout-out to  for solving my problem. As it turns out the data is all in place but both the primary and backup partitions were fritzed. Now LUCKILY he had figured out that if you maintain the standard FreeNAS format the system reserves the first 2 gb for SWAP. using THIS [Wikipedia Link|https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table] we know that the partition table ends at LBA 33 in both directions - it was simply a matter of counting backwards until the correct end sector was found and reattaching it to the geli key. all my data is back!

i hope you still have the exported /downloaded encryption keys from your encrypted pool? these are the counter parts needed in conjunction with the GELI metadata header on disk to decrypt data. they were also saved on the old install medium. if the the keys are lost there is imho no point to try anything further. 

when would be a good time for you? any preferred way to contact you?

unfortunately the original Installation no longer exists as the USB stick died. I stopped using it since and intended to create a new one with a pair of drives this time. I did use standard partitions. Also I'm mildly educated in this but honestly not enough to clearly understand what you are saying. So I would appreciate the chat. I understand and apologize that this will eat into your time.
