Jails fail to start after upgrade to 12.0 Beta 2

Description

I just upgraded my FreeNAS 11.3-U4.1 system to TrueNAS Core 12.0 Beta2. All but one of my jails failed to start. I have tried to start them manually but they fail. They are all set to start on boot and use vnet and connect to one or more bridge interfaces that are connected to vlan interfaces that are connected to a lagg interface. I also have some VMs that do start and are connected to the bridge222 interface and they work.

I am going to revert to my 11.3 boot environment but I can do additional testing later if you have things you would like me to do. Also let me know if you want a debug from the 11.3 system.

my suspicion is that this bug was in early 11.2 probably and that's why your jail created in 11.3 works as desired. About changing it, you can click on edit in the UI and you should see the setting for changing it under Jail properties.

, The jail that started is the newest one. It was probably created on 11.3-U4 or U4.1. The others have been through varying number of upgrades. I think most of them were created somewhere in the 11.2 time frame. One or two might go back to 11.1. Several of them were created from the command line with iocage not the GUI, although they have been edited and managed mostly with the GUI since 11.3.

By the way: Where can I see what devfs rulesets exist and what rules they contain? Also how to create new ones if needed.

Thanks,

   Kelly

thank you for reporting this issue. We have seen this issue before. Some before in iocage we had an issue where it assigned a different devfs ruleset and in 11.3 if a devfs ruleset did not exist, iocage defaulted to the default one automatically, however that behaviour has been changed in 12 and it is fatal if the devfs ruleset does not exist.
So please change the devfs ruleset for each jail to 4 which is the default one and it should work as desired. Also can you please let me know when you created these jails ( like on which FN version ) ? Thank you
