interfaces - can't add anything

Description

Motherboard = Supermicro X10SDV-16C-TLN4F

I have done 3 fresh installs to two different boot devices, first was to USB drives, second (current) was to SSD.

Fresh install, try to add a bridge, a bond, or a vlan, after entering the settings I click apply then "test changes". Now a spinning wheel with "please wait" appears, during this time it seems the entire network stack resets, the host does not respond to ping on the managemnt IP, SSH sessions timeout, once the spinning wheel goes away (around 2 minutes), the new interface disappears from the list and the host now responds to ping and SSH etc.

This behaviour is the same when trying to add any type of interface and I have tried all kinds of settings within each interface type.

Hey guys!  I am experiencing the same issue as Damon.  In my case, I have an Realtek NIC on my motherboard that TrueNAS configures via DHCP and then an Intel dual-NIC PCIe card that I want to create an LACP bond0 interface on.

I configure the LAGG interface using the Web UI and everything works as expected, but when I "test" the change it never completes.  Looking at the console, I see that the Realtek NIC goes down when the bond0 interface is created so the Web UI can no longer reach the TrueNAS server.

When the "test" times out, the Realtek NIC is restored and the WebUI comes back to life.

If I use the CLI's "network interface create" to create my bond0 interface from the console, it works fine.

If I use two dashes in the CLI to drop into the YAML editor to create bond0, however, I also lose the Realtek NIC.  I reconnected to the WebUI using the static IP of the bond0 interface and noticed that my Realtek NIC had DHCP disabled.  I reenabled DHCP and the NIC came back to life.

If you have no interfaces configured at all by default all are configured using DHCP. As soon as configured the first interface that is removed from all interfaces. Is the management interface part of the bridge you're creating?

- I don't know how to interpret any of your comments here, except maybe you're assuming I'm working from the shell prompt? I'm not, this is done from the UI, so it has a management interface already.

"If you're not being able to reach after configuring thats probably because there is no connectivity and it reverts back after the period without confirmation." - I'm not changing anything to do with management, I'm just trying to add ANY type of interface. For example, I want to add a bridge such that only 2 VM's can communicate with each other - why does it need to have ANY interfaces assigned to it? Why does the UI prompt me that the bridge NEEDS an IP address? Those issues aside; this has nothing to do with reachability of the management interface.

"Have you tried configured your gateway before making interface changes?" Unsure what relevance this has to the issue - I'm in the same room as the host, on the same subnet.

"Other than that you could also try to configure the interface you're accessing the interface first, a management interface." - it has a management interface

The only new thing I have noticed is that using IPMI and trying to enter the network menu via shell (option #1), the shell returns "Sorry, network configuration helpers work still in progress".  This is hours after I have attempted to make any changes.

Happy to provide whatever else I can to be of assistance.

Thanks

I don't see anything wrong. If you're not being able to reach after configuring thats probably because there is no connectivity and it reverts back after the period without confirmation.

Have you tried configured your gateway before making interface changes?

Other than that you could also try to configure the interface you're accessing the interface first, a management interface.
