Not an issue anymore with new file naming schema on update server.

since commenting out the checks above to bypass the checks, I have successfully been able to install subsequent nightlies without modification.
Possibly a borked manifest file?

Steps to force update for latest bug
1. cd /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/middlewared/plugins/update_
2. nano install_linux.py
3. Comment out the following lines
4. service middlewared stop
5. service middlewared start
6. cli -c 'system update update'
7. reboot

Thank you for the report, . Can you please attach a debug file to the "Private Attachments" section of this ticket? To generate a debug file on TrueNAS SCALE, log in to the TrueNAS web interface, go to System Settings > Advanced, then click Save Debug and wait for the file to download to your local system.
Nightlies will not upgrade via webGUI or CLI. same error message via both.
