Phantom GPU

Description

Steps to demonstrate this problem:

Install a Gforce GTX 980 Ti GPU.
After startup the GPU appears as an option for assignment to a VM. (this is expected)
But another GPU appears in the list as well: Matrox Electronics System Ltd G200eR2 (this is not expected)I do not know if the phantom G200 was in the list before I installed the GTX 980 Ti. (Did not check before the install)
I do not have any G200 units in my possession so it is not possible for me to have introduced it by accident.
Then removed the GTX hardware and after restart the G200eR2 continues to be in the list. (The GTX 980 Ti is gone for the list)
Attempting to select G200 returns the following error:

[EINVAL] advanced_settings_update.isolated_gpu_pci_ids: 0000:04:00.0 GPU pci slot(s) are not available or a GPU is not configured.

Have not yet found a way to clear the GPU list. (The phantom G200 remains). Havn't yet reinstalled the GTX 980.

As far as I understand it is working as expected.

Let us know if I am misunderstanding but you may have a onboard GPU that sometimes cannot be detached.

Thank you for the response about G200 supported by the R720. This machine has been in my service for years now as a FreeNAS/TrueNAS Core server. It has an alternate life now with SCALE investigating new applications. Who knew that there was a GPU buried in my NAS!

The result reported is that the GPU does exist in this application but is unavailable for use and not worth the trouble. The G200 presence is hopefully benign.

Ok so looked at your debug, and your running a Dell PowerEdge R720  the Dell PowerEdge R720 and R720xd Technical Guide on page 58 says:

so its part of your iDRAC7

My guess is that you are running on a server, and that server has an out of band management system, IPMI/BMC/iDRAC.  This is the kind of gpu that gets integrated into those

I have one of these Supermiro mother boards X9SCL+-F and under VGA you can see it also has a Matrox G200.  Its a real card, it really is on you system, and its not worth virtualizing on even if you could.  its really intended as a console display.
