Raidz pool size incorrectly estimated during creation

Description

Hello!

Pool size estimation is not taking additional ZFS capacity overhead into account on raidz creation. I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out what’s going on using different storage capacity calculators online.

I have 12 disks of 14Tb - which are 12 x 12.73TiB.

If raidz2 capacity is estimated as (12-2) x 12.73 TiB it gives 127.31 TiB which I honestly expected my storage to be (creation.png). However the true available storage capacity is 116.24 TiB (pool_info.png).

I’ve double verified it using cli - the array is indeed 116 TiB.

If I use these two online calculators ( link1, link2 ) they give me results I actually see - 116 TiB instead of naive 127 TiB.

It’s not a critical issue, but an unpleasant one - it makes user think “WTF is going on, where did my space go?” and spend lots of time trying to get to the bottom of it and question the reliability of the system.
