Dropbox Sync Failing .. directory not found!

Description

TrueNAS dropbox sync error.png

This is ongoing “Cloud Sync Task” that I have running each night at midnight. The same result happens on manual runs of the task as well.

The initial run the task took over 24 hours to complete, but since, it completes (almost) with 100% in about 8 hours (see image).

"< 6 >INFO : Dropbox root '': Committing uploads - please wait... Failed to copy with 14 errors: last error was: march failed with 13 error(s): first error: directory not found rclone failed with exit code 3"

I have the sync task configured as below: I have it configured to “PULL” from Dropbox, using a “COPY” transfer mode to a folder: /mnt/raid_pool/backups/Dropbox Backup. None of the Advanced features are used or enabled.

The parent folder of “Dropbox Backup” is “Backups” and is an SMB Share. When I have that mounted to look at the Dropbox contents, I notice another odd thing, that might be related, many of the folders on the TrueNAS folder have alphanumeric names instead of the names that appear on Dropbox, that are six letters with a dash and another alphanumeric digit, something like: “X1Y2Z3-A”.

I noticed that the folders on Dropbox that have a slash (“/”) in them have the alphanumeric names on TrueNAS.

I use slashes in a lot of my filenames at home, work, pretty much everywhere. If I run into any issues with the filename, I generally can get around it using a quoted filename.

Is this what I causing the errors?

What other information do you need from me?

Thanks for the ticket but please reach out to our forums for help. It’s not evident this is a bug and we don’t have the resources to investigate the peculiarities that come with the dropbox cloud sync task at the moment. If someone on the forums can help and isolate where this might actually be failing, please take note of it and open a fresh ticket so we can investigate.

I have reviewed some of those logs, because at first glance, I thought maybe there might be some illegal characters and such, but I followed some of those paths, and yeah, there are quite a few folders that had some odd filenames with some symbols in them, especially the “slash” character, but nothing like emojis or control-characters .. which was my first thought. These files are from years ago HFS volumes from older MacOS 6-9.

So, I have no idea what it is barfing on. HELP!?

Looking through the “Jobs” logs, I see more detail as to why things were “Not Found”. I will work to see if these just contain invalid or illegal characters. These are files literally from there 80s and 90s that I have kept around, so not surprised by some of these.
