I completely understand why you would not want anyone using those for smartd. I will be submitting a ticket to update the User Guide with some details on this field.

We disallow options like this because we add -d to the smartd.conf. Allowing a user to specify these flags would generate invalid smartd.conf data which, ultimately, breaks smartd service. We have no intentions of changing this behavior anytime soon.

Still receive error messages when trying to use the “S.M.A.R.T. extra options” field in the GUI. this was reported way back in May 2023 and dismissed without any explanation. If there is a proper way to use this section, the User Guide does not provide the information how to use it properly.
What am I trying to do? Use
-d sat
or--device=sat
or “ANY” command that starts with a dash. This may be low priority however it has been around for years.
