Dear iX Systems Support,
I am experiencing major issues with TrueNAS Scale’s virtualization functionality, making it effectively unusable for running VMs. The SPICE authentication setting is forced on, and I cannot disable it in the UI. Even when entering the correct password, I receive Invalid password errors.
Attempting to switch to VNC also fails, as connections are refused. When using SPICE, I can briefly see the OS boot, but then the display crashes, leaving the VM inaccessible.
Issues Encountered:
SPICE Authentication Cannot Be Disabled – The UI does not allow me to turn it off, and my correct credentials are rejected.
VNC Fails to Connect – After switching to VNC, it refuses connections, making the VM display entirely inaccessible.
VM Display Crashes Shortly After Boot – I can briefly see Ubuntu starting, but the screen then goes black or becomes unresponsive.
VM Terminates Unexpectedly – The VM shuts down with Signal 15 from libvirtd, without any clear system resource errors.
Display Errors in Logs – Seeing Unimplemented function errors related to DrawCopy, Inval All Palettes, and Display Mark.
At this point, the entire virtualization feature of TrueNAS Scale is effectively unusable, as I cannot properly run or manage a VM due to these persistent issues.
Troubleshooting Steps Taken:
✔ Verified I am entering the correct SPICE password.
✔ Attempted to disable SPICE authentication, but the UI does not allow it.
✔ Switched to VNC, but it fails to accept connections (connection refused).
✔ Restarted the VM multiple times with no success.
✔ Checked logs (journalctl -xe and dmesg) and found no memory, CPU, or disk errors.
This appears to be a critical issue with TrueNAS Scale’s VM management, preventing VMs from being properly accessed and causing them to crash shortly after boot.
I would appreciate any guidance on:
How to disable SPICE authentication when the UI does not allow it.
How to ensure VNC is properly enabled and accessible.
Why the VM crashes after only a few moments of uptime.
I hope this issue can be addressed, as virtualization is a key feature of TrueNAS Scale, and right now, it is completely broken for me.
Respectfully,
Tyler Moore
