Stuck with "middleware not running" on upgrade from 24.10.2 to Fangtooth RC1

Description

System was running fine before (Scale 24.10.2), but after installing the upgrade via the webinterface, the system does not boot up properly anymore. Firstly, it stays at "Error: Driver 'pcspkr' is already registered, aborting..." for about 10 minutes, then it continues until it reports "middleware not running". From there i can enter the CLI, but no further. Moving/remaning *.db-files (as suggested in ) did not help.

Problem/Justification

System stuck on boot after upgrade, not useable.

Hi

Unfortunately your system is in a state that makes troubleshooting very difficult.

Would you be able to boot back into 25.04 and do the following steps:

  • Wait for it to say middlewared not running again

  • Go to the shell

  • run: pkill -9 -f middleware

  • run: middlewared

That should try to run middleware in foreground, at that point we would like a few photos of the screen up until the point it gets stuck.

Thank you

Luckily, booting in 24.10 still works.
However, if the system is restarted it tries to boot in 25.04 getting stuck again.
Restarted the update-process (incl. fresh download), but result is still the same… extremely long boot at “pcspkr already registered” (although by now i assume that it is stuck at a later process which is not displayed, probably those middleware steps). Finally it again ends up with “middleware is not running”

While i can use the system with 24.10 for now, the problem with booting up in Fangtooth remains, as it can not be removed in systems/boot (probably because it is waiting for a successful restart, see picture).

Any advice on how i can get rid of the entry? (note that after the second install i was at least able to remove the first one, which is still shown in the screenshot)
