Tree:

• Dataset Name column be just Dataset

• There is often confusion when user is being switched to the dataset that they’ve just created. Perhaps we can provide some visual indication or animation to draw attention to this. (There is already a message in snackbar).

Details pane:

• See if we can maybe make Delete button an icon and move to top right where Add buttons are.

• See if we can group Add Child Dataset / Zvol together in some way. Don’t hide them.

• See if we can use pencil icons instead of Edit button everywhere.

Dataset Details card:

• Rename card to just Details

• Type row can be removed.

• Add Root Dataset (tooltip) when it’s a root dataset.

• Options like Sync, Enable Atime, ZFS Deduplication and Case Sensitivity should only be shown if they differ from values that we deem standard.

• Compression should only be shown if it’s enabled.

• Path can be higher (or it can move to panel header)

Dataset Space Management:

• Card can be renamed to just Space Management or something even simpler.

• Can Total Allocation be just Used?

• Space Available to Dataset can be Available Space.

  • Number can be on the same line.

  • We should add a tooltip and explain how this value is determined.

Data Protection:

• Later: provide scores as to how secure your data is.

• Create Snapshot => Take Snapshot.

• We need to provide an explanation of what a snapshot is.

• Total Snapshots => Snapshots.

• Manage Snapshots => View Snapshots

• Can Snapshot Tasks: 0 be something like No scheduled snapshots or Snapshots are taken on schedule ?

• We need to provide separation between snapshots and other tasks.

• Instead of providing a breakdown of each task, show:

  • No backup tasks - Add backup task

  • or Replication Tasks: 1- View backup tasks

  • There should only be only link to go to Backup tasks.

Roles:

• Rename to something else to avoid confusion with RBAC system.

• Don’t offer to create SMB share on the root dataset.

  • Also hide Not shared

ZFS Encryption:

• Rename to just Encryption.

• Current State: Unlocked and Type: Passphrase can be just Password - <icon> Unlocked.

• Algorithm can be removed.

• Add tooltip to Encryption Root: Yes .

• Show icon in the card title.

Permissions:

• Owner can be one line user/group.

• Unix permissions could be a dialog.

• TODO: How important is it to show ACLs here.

  • Consider making it a collapsible section.

  • And/or providing summary.

  • Or at least compacting the representation.
